Board Training

As stewards of their organizations, legal aid boards are responsible for overseeing their providers’ performance, accountability, fiscal integrity and regulatory compliance. They are also responsible for working with programs to develop strategic and long-range plans and ensure that provider resources and services are responsive to evolving community needs and “accomplish lasting results” for clients. How can legal aid providers and boards ensure that their boards are up to these increasingly challenging responsibilities?

Overview: The training will provide a comprehensive framework for understanding the full range of governing body roles, responsibilities and best practices specifically in the context of civil legal aid practice as well as specific funding requirements and practice standards to which legal aid providers are accountable. Participants will leave the training with concrete tools and plans for strengthening board practice back home.

Who should attend: The Board Development training is geared for newer and more experienced board members and Executive Directors.
